Our Head of Community, Brian O’Driscoll, took part in a PGA event today in Japan. Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama and Jason Day played the 18-hole Skins game, a PGA Event at Accordia Golf Narashino C.C. in Chiba outside Tokyo.
During the course of the round, the golfers encountered some extra challenges for charity at three separate holes. Four ex-International rugby players took part in the 7th hole, par 3 round, including Brian, Mike Tindall, George Gregan and Bryan Habana.
Each rugby player was paired up with a golf pro to play the hole in a two-person scramble format:
- Team 1. Brian O’Driscoll & Rory McIlroy
- Team 2. George Gregan & Jason Day
- Team 3. Bryan Habana & Hideki Matsuyama
- Team 4. Mike Tindall & Tiger Woods
Brian made birdie on the hole with the score going towards his partner Rory McIlroy’s overall finish.
Did his G+C Burgundy Red Marco Polo inspire him to play like this? I mean… Probably.
Brian and Rory shared the hole with Bryan Habana & Hideki Matsuyama and $100K USD was donated in their name to a PGA designated charity. In addition to the charity challenge on the 7th hole, Brian and the other rugby players talked to the Discovery Channel on-course live analysts and interviewers during the round, as well as to their social-media correspondents.
One hell of a way to round out a weekend of incredible rugby!
